MAKING CONTACT - a weekly international radio program

Resisting Illegitimate Authority in Today’s Political Context

January 9, 2008

Radical thinkers, military resisters and longtime movement activists reflect on the past 40 years of resistance movements in the US, where we are today, and what to do next.

Community members participated in a forum, “Resisting Illegitimate Authority in Today’s Political Context” at the 40th anniversary celebration for the RESIST Foundation in September 2007. The RESIST Foundation funds activism and education work to build movements for social change.

On this edition, we’ll hear excerpts from the panelists discussing examples and strategies of resistance.

Featuring:

Noam Chomsky, RESIST founder, leading radical thinker, Professor of Linguistics, Linguistic Theory, Syntax, Semantics, Philosophy of Language at Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Mandy Carter, founder of Southerners on New Ground (SONG) and founding member of the National Black Justice Coalition; Camilo Mejia, war-resister and anti-war activist; Bill Fletcher, Jr., labor activist, co-chair of United for Peace and Justice, visiting Professor at Brooklyn College-CUNY.
